Angela K Design Studio is a boutique design practice devoted to designing homes shaped by proportion, material integrity, and a deep respect for place.
The studio approaches each project with an understanding that enduring architecture grows from structure, craft, and context. Whether guiding new construction or shaping a historically sensitive renovation, the work is grounded in natural materials, expressive detailing, and the quiet strength of well-considered construction.
Inspired by traditions such as Shingle Style, Tudor, Craftsman, and Mid-Century Modern, the studio values structural honesty, skilled craftsmanship, and the relationship between indoors and out. These principles inform homes that feel rooted, balanced, and lasting.
Craft & Collaboration
Design is realized through collaboration. The studio works closely with engineers, consultants, and local craftspeople to ensure that ideas are carried through with precision and care.
Particular attention is given to structural and expressive details — exposed framing, layered trim, proportioned openings, and material transitions that reveal how a home is made. Craft is not ornamental; it gives a home presence and permanence.
Leadership
Angela Kirkpatrick, founder and principal, brings more than two decades of professional experience to the studio. Raised in Louisville, her work is informed by the region’s architectural character and historic fabric.
After earning her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kentucky in 2001, she spent thirteen years in commercial design, working on healthcare facilities, historic renovations, and retail environments. This foundation established a disciplined approach to planning and construction that continues to shape the studio’s residential work.
Since establishing her independent practice in 2014, she has focused on residential and light commercial projects, guiding clients through a thoughtful and collaborative design process.
